New NH laws open the door for more housing options.

Legislation passed in mid-2025 now allows detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) by right, reduces parking requirements, and permits residential properties in formerly restricted commercial zones. One of the first examples: an elderly woman in Concord is building a tiny home in her backyard—no special zoning exceptions needed—thanks to these new laws. While local control is still a hot topic, advocates say this could make a real difference one home at a time.
